How do you work from home as a mother? Is it really possible to manage a house, cook, clean, iron, wash and care for the kids whilst holding a full time job down? Freelance writing is an option for working from home.
The answer to the above is YES!! In the 21st century , there really is no need for men to be at the office and mums to be left in the midst of shadows. I am a full time work at home mum of 2 and manage to balance a full-time career as a freelance writer too!
I frown upon people that look down at us mums as being stay at home nightdress couch lay abouts. I used to have a full time career in sales and marketing , however my need to be with the kids made me to reconsider my whole outlook to work. I chose to leave my job and become a full-time work at home mummy. Believe me you the decision was not taken lightly. It was not all flying colours and yes yes yes. In-fact starting out I began to wonder had i made the correct decision.
The decision to work from home is not to be take lightly multi tasking skills are necessary and a requirement to enable your home business to be successful. With determination and great effort you will succeed. In the first few months of being a work at home mum I was starting to look like a zombie! I became a workaholic .
Rejection has to be taken lightly and lead you to more determination, not every one will like your skills as a writer. As soon as you learn that and the money starts flowing you will instantly be feeling satisfaction!
Upon reading this article and wondering how the hell can I run a business from home and look after the kids, the answer is: Easily! As long as your standard of English is high and you're able to type, then joining the freelance writing industry will never leave you short of offers.
I always had a keen interest in the Internet and having the ability to turn it into my full time source of income. the ambition to do this came from hearing all the other success stories that are out there. This really is what led me to have a go. I began registering for paid surveys, paid to clicks and affiliate schemes. It didn't take me long to realise if i continued this and putting hope to these schemes working there would be no stay at home job!
I began to realise that the many success stories rang untrue. It's very easy to stick a one page site that sells an ebook teaching others of your so called success. Half the sites are people like us that are trying to make cash! You can't blame them for their efforts however honesty is always the best policy. Whilst delving into the money making online industry you have to be VERY careful, treading with deep caution will help you considerably. More often than not something that seems too good to be true really is.
It was not long after i finally woke up and smelt the coffee , I discovered freelancing bid sites. Yes blog owners and site owners around the globe need to put content onto their sites to help draw the readers in. The price of writing is low, however don't let this put you off. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I started off registering at sites like getafreelancer, writerlance and scriptlance you are able to register free at these sites. After getting payments I then went on to advertise on forums, search craigslists for freelance writing gigs and soon began to learn that if you provide quality and take the job seriously then it will begin to pay !
Anything is possible!!!!!! Clients return , very soon your mail box becomes full of orders and eventually you will have to seek out writers to help you along. The first few months of sleepless nights led me to realise that the industry really is global and writing is 24- 7 NONE STOP around the clock work.
You will have to be able to research , write, proof read , edit and pass copyscape checks before sending work to clients.Your days will be spent downloading and uploading work, checking on the progress of writers, helping them with tips and pointers.
Then there is the pay issue! you really need to be aware in this aspect. You certainly need to invest in a filing cabinet and a good diary. Organisation skills are a must, you need to keep track of how much clients owe you , how much you owe your writers etc etc.
All this can be done from the comfort of your own home ! You can sit down with the kids and continue your full time job as a stay at home working mum. Its not costly to get started out a paypal and a pc will suffice to start off. You need the ability to seek out jobs and cant expect clients to find you unless you put your self out there !
Conclusion - Being a mum and working from home is possible !! !
I too am a freelance writer. You are right that you must put yourself out there. No one will find you if you don't take a few risks. I also belong to the Children's Writers coaching club to keep in contact with professonal authors and other writers who enjoy writing for children. Because I am a nurse, I also write health related articles. You have to find a focus but also think outside the box to find honest freelance jobs and to keep the work coming in. I am looking for work part of the time, writing part of the time, and keeping up with my blog and website and other social networks the rest of the time. Blessings, Terri
