When baby starts on solid foods, you are starting from scratch with someone who has never eaten anything but formula or breast milk. There are some foods which babies are more likely to have allergic reactions to, some that are choking hazards, and some that pose health risks. Some seemingly innocent foods (such as honey and peanut butter) can even pose hazards, so it's important to be sure you know which baby foods to avoid.

High Allergy Risk Foods for Babies

• Peanut butter, peanuts and other nuts
• Fish and seafood
• Cow's milk (which has also been shown to boost baby's risk of devoping allergies later on if introduced before age 1)
• Eggs
• Foods with preservatives

Choking Hazards to Babies

• Bread (which can form a doughy paste in their mouth and become lodged in the throat)
• Hot dogs
• Popcorn
• Nuts
• Seeds
• Raisins

Hazardous foods

• Honey (which can cause botulism and even be fatal)
