Mothers Work, Inc.Morning sickness can be one of the toughest aspects of being pregnant. This is especially true if it's more like morning noon and night sickness. Experiment with these remedies and combinations of these remedies, and you should find some morning sickness relief. You can't really eliminate morning sickness, but you can make it much more tolerable.

  • Eat slowly. Even if you are ravenous, eat your food slowly and you will be much less likely to get nauseous.
  • Remain still after eating. This is a great way to reduce morning sickness, and a remedy that is rarely cited on morning sickness cure lists. After you eat, don't get up for five minutes or more. You will quickly notice that nausea strikes more often when you eat and bounce right up. Even if you haven't eaten, lay down or sit down if you notice a wave of nausea.
  • Eat more often, but smaller meals. Your body will have an easier time digesting your food if you have three small meals and two snacks versus the traditional three large meals a day.
  • Forget crackers, eat bananas. Bananas are incredibly easy to digest, so if the old standard advice of noshing saltines isn't working then try bananas instead.
  • Don't get hungry. This might sound odd, but not eating for an extended period will make you sick and more likely to feel sick after eating. Don't allow yourself to go more than three or four hours without a small, healthy snack. Keep something non-perishable next to your bed to eat before rising in the morning.
  • Avoid strong smells. There's one sure-fire way to bring on a morning sickness attack with a pregnant woman, and that is smelling something (even something pleasant). You're sense of smell is intense, so do whatever is possible to avoid being around strong smells like walking past smokers or being in the kitchen when someone is cooking (or even cooking a dinner that has a strong aroma).
  • Avoid temperature extremes. Walk outside in extreme heat or cold, and morning sickness could strike almost instantly. This may be unavoidable, but if you can stay inside on an extreme day, try to do so. If possible, park close to the door when you can.

a couple things to add

I'm currently going through the sickies, and I am very thankful for this article. I'm sending my husband for some bananas! I think I really need to check how fast I'm eating my food and I need to stop moving around when I eat (I'm famous for eating my plate of food while I'm still working in the kitchen). There are some things that have been helpful to me. I just drank a nice cold glass of apple juice, and it made me feel better. Also whenever I eat something high in protein, my nausea subsides for about two hours. And a nice cup of peppermint or orange tea has been really good, in the morning and in the evening.

It worked for me

I was very sick with my 2 boys, both times from week 6 to about week 14 of the pregnancy. It was so bad that me weight at these times was probably the lowest of my life! I tried eating ginger biscuits occasionally, as ginger is meant to be good for nausea, and it helps a little - if you can stand the taste of the ginger. In my second pregnancy, I went for acupuncture. I have to say that it did help me. Although I was still sick a lot, it seemed to be less often, and less severe that the first time around. also I stopped feeling sick a lot earlier. So whether it was the acupuncture or just coincidence, who can tell. But if you are really suffering it might be something to consider. I hate taking any form of tablets, so after the doctor offered me anti-sickness pills....no way. Also I bought some travel sickness wristbands from the pharmacy, which I wore for a while. Again acupressure on the points of the wrist. . Natural remedies can work, it is just a trial and error process to find the ones that your body responds to.idea
