NICU Survival Guide locked

Tips for Parents with a Baby in the NICU
NICU
print PDF

The NICU, or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, is a frightening place for parents. You are worried about your newborn, who is attached to several wires and maybe tubes and breathing machines. Instead of the blissful experience of taking your new baby home when you are discharged from the hospital, a NICU mom must leave without her baby.

There are many issues for NICU moms and dads, ranging from understanding NICU milestones to bonding with a baby that is under someone else's care to the challenges of establishing breastfeeding in situations where you might not be allowed to nurse.

Consult this NICU Survival Guide for tips and advice. Also be sure to share and view pictures of NICU babies in the NICU Picture Galleryexternal link.
