Diaper bags aren't just a fashion statement, they're a lifeline for Moms, especially those of us with multiples. Curious what Moms of More than One carry in their diaper bags? Read on and find out!

One of the most common subjects that pops up about getting out and around with my twins revolves around the diaper bag. First, folks always want to know what I tote with me when tooling around town, or out of town, with my twins.

When Max and Sara were first born, I’ll be honest, I could’ve packed my house and it STILL wouldn’t have been enough to put my mind at ease when we travelled. Now that my kids are older, and we’ve made several long trips that required packing for weeks at a time, I’ve become proficient at knowing what to bring and what to leave home.

I keep two diaper bags packed at all times. One for quick trips and one for longer excursions. Here are the contents of the quick trip bag:

  • Four diapers
  • Small travel container of wipes
  • Ziploc bag of easy to administer snack, i.e., Goldfish, bigger crackers, etc
  • Two sippy cups already filled with juice/milk from home
  • Two single-serve bottles of juice
  • Two or three small toys

Currently, the bag I use for my everyday use is this one by Skip Hop. Of course, I’d suggest using something a little more fashionable, but something that will accomodate your keys, wallet, and other sundry purse items, so that you can avoid toting a purse AND a diaper bag.

The extended-stay bag currently holds:

  • 6-8 diapers, possibly more depending on our destination
  • Full-size container of wipes
  • 2 Full changes of clothes, including socks
  • 2 pairs PJ’s
  • Several binkies
  • Two containers of snacks
  • Desitin
  • Changing pad
  • Medicine bag
    • Advil
    • Tylenol
    • Orajel swabs
    • Hyland’s Teething tablets
    • Mylicon drops
    • Tylenol/Advil for Momma
  • TIde-to-Go Stick
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Emergency cell phone charger, powered by a battery
  • Sundry toys and books, depending on the length of our trip
  • Extra shirt for Momma

The bag I use is part of the C9 for Champion line, purchased at Target for under $20. It’s original purpose is a gym bag, but it’s roomy, has oodles of compartments and the outside is a cinch to clean. Unfortunately, the bag I bought is no longer available. However, my advice when it comes to diaper bags…think outside the baby aisle.

You need a utility bag, especially when travelling with twins, and it doesn’t need to come from a certain part of the store. Plus, anything marked “diaper bag” is normally priced much, much higher than their more generic counterparts, and if you can stand not getting some of the bells and whistles, you could stand to save a bundle.

Also, you may want to consider purchasing a backpack for some solo trips, because whether you’re handling two infants in carriers or two toddlers in a stroller, not having to worry about a bag slipping off your shoulder is priceless.

avatar I'm a twin mommy and carry a Skip Hop also. My favorite is the Skip Hop Duo Double. It holds everything I need for my twins and toddler. The best part is that it latches onto the back of a double strollers, which is great since most large diaper bags don't fit into the bottom of double strollers. Highly recommended as a life-saver for parents of multiples or many.
