Finding Wide Toddler Shoes

There is only one thing that is harder to find than a pair of jeans that actually fit right, and that is extra-wide shoes for a toddler who just won't fit into standard width shoes. When shoe shopping makes you want to pull your hair out there are a few places to turn.

There are alot of exciting firsts as your toddler grows and develops. First step, first word, first haircut and first pair of shoes. I had postponed putting shoes on my toddler until he was ready to walk. I had tried on a few pairs when he was younger but found myself walking away frustrated because nothing seemed to fit.

So when it was time that I actually needed to put him in shoes I became nervous. What if my child would have to be barefoot forever? After looking at several stores to no avail I had a conversation with my babysitter, who has spent her entire life around kids and she suggested Stride Rite.

We went to the mall to check it out, completely prepared to be disappointed. However, we left the store that day with shoes that actually fit my son.... mission accomplished. While the price is a little steep and there was not as much variety as I would have found if he could wear standard size shoes, I still believe it was a victory.

The staff was helpful and they measured his foot to make sure that we were choosing the right size. Since that time I've also discovered that while you can't always find extra wide shoes in stores there are some to be found online. I've had great luck at Zappos especially. With each new pair I find my shoe shopping anxiety goes down. Here's to more happy shopping!
