Keeping our families safe is a concern and an important topic to all of us. Within today's society there are growing list of health, safety, and environmental issues. As a country, it is imperative that we continue to put systems in place for prevention of incidents and to reduce risk to everyone.

Several thoughts may arise as we ponder questions such as how do we protect our families from..., well you fill in the blanks because the list can go on and on.

One of the topics in recent news from an article published on May 9, 2008 gives us a closer look into internet safety. The internet is a growing concern for anyone with computer literate children; now one particular company is taking initiative to keep our children safe.

Facebook agreed to restrict users over age 18 from seeking out younger users, send warning messages when a child is in danger of providing personal data to an unknown adult, and act more aggressively to remove inappropriate content and groups from the site. The company will also take part in a task force headed by MySpace to develop age and identity verification software.

MySpace and Facebook have come under attack by regulators for not doing enough to police their sites and shield minors. Since 2006, Blumenthal and North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper have led a working group of state Attorney Generals seeking to tighten online protections.

We should applaud companies who are walking the talk to make our jobs as parents a little easier. But, it is ultimately our responsibility as parents to implement other safety measures as needed and to model safe behaviors for our children.

In that regard, how do you personally measure up? How do you measure up in being safety conscience across the board in your life? Do you cut corners in regards to using the proper tools when gardening for instance? Do you walk past a trip hazard and reserve in your mind to fix it later? Those are just a few examples that can be categorized as unsafe behavior. Behaviors are learned. Behaviors can become habit. If we desire our children to grow into safety conscience adults, safe behaviors must be modeled on a continuous basis, and best if started at an early age.

It is important that we grow our knowledge and understanding then, act accordingly. Resources that assist us in our growth process are always welcomed. ABC's for Your Babies Safety is a resource that addresses behaviors as well as many other elements to adopting a safety focused lifestyle. The book is a fun and informative guide for families of multiples to keep their babies safe in the home and out. It addresses many safety hazards and preventions, some of which are described specifically for families of multiples.

ABC's for Your Babies Safety will be available in Fall of 2008.
