As a mom there are many things we tend to forget on a daily basis. The main thing being ourselves. We forget to shower, to change out of our sweats, to get our hair done or buy a much needed new top. We forget to be women and take time for ourselves. Instead we spend our time giving everything we are to our children and significant other. It’s one of the many joys of motherhood and having a family and one of the main reasons so many of us find ourselves burnt out.

What happens though when we run out of “us” to give? New parents especially are prone to burnout of some degree, but how do we play super mom, be a women, run the house, work and still have time for hubby, let alone manage to squeeze in even the most basic activities just for us? It’s a juggling act of monumental proportion, or so it seems. The truth is much simpler.

You really can shower in 5 minutes or less, and trust me you’ll feel so much better once you do. Squeeze it in while baby naps or better yet take the bouncy seat into the bathroom and jump in quick while baby is content. This works for toddlers as well if your bathroom is baby proofed just bring in a few toys and let them play, it might not be quiet but your body will feel refreshed. Just be sure to perfect the art of shower curtain peek-a-boo.

Cut your hair, if you’re brave enough to, and get a style that you can just brush and go, you generally look more put together than you would just throwing your hair up in a pony tail. Not to mention how much faster it is to wash shorter hair and all the energy you will save not having to blow dry, straiten, or curl your previously long locks.

Put away all your maternity clothes and comfy pregnant items. It’s time to go back to your jeans, even if they are a size or two bigger than before. You’re more likely to go out and feel better about yourself if you get dressed first thing in the morning and don’t lounge in your pj’s. Not to mention what a self esteem boost it is when hubby walks in and just stares at this beautiful woman that is his wife.

Eat, whatever you do don’t forget to eat, and drink plenty, you need your energy and a balanced diet will help you lose weight faster and feel better throughout the day. Feel free to keep taking those prenatal vitamins as well if you are breast feeding, your body needs the boost.

And lastly take time to relax, learn to let some chores go and take that first half hour of nap time or right after baby goes to sleep at night and make it YOU time. Your health and your well being are vital to you being a good parent.
