So you're on the verge of a kindergarten. When the summer months come to an end, will you be able to let go and say goodbye to the precious baby you once rocked to sleep every single night? Sit back, take a deep breath, because you as a family are all in for a big ride.

child-development.jpg This milestone is not only going to be an adjustment for your kindergartener-to-be, it will be an adjustment to the whole family. Your child will probably be in a full time program if a part time program is no longer offered in your state. This can be overwhelming in itself but everyone will survive.

The best way to get everyone ready is do it while in the summer months. Set routines and schedules that everyone will be able to get used to instead of just starting with one on the first day of school. This is not recommended since it will be a rough start.

Be sure to set consistent bed times and wake up times in the month of August. This will get their little bodies in the routine for September when their little body clocks will be running on a schedule day in and day, out Monday through Friday.

Keep your kindergartener-to-be's mind sharp throughout the summer. Offer learning worksheets and games to encourage learning. You don't want everything your preschooler learned over the summer to be lost when starting kindergarten.

As a family be sure that tv time is limited. Dinner time should be a family focused time to stay connected with each other.

As a mother in this category I am overwhelmed, slightly stressed, and sad, but I am willing to get things in order to make things easier on everyone. This is a big milestone for your child's life so taking into consideration every aspect of preparation is so very important! Here's to Kindergarten!
