Whilst trawling websites looking for inspiration, information and cheap flights I have stumbled across sites that have become stalwarts of my “favourites” file. These are the sites I return to when I have a precious half hour to myself - the lighter side of the internet!
Living in Spain I don’t get my hands on the Psychologies Magazine nearly often enough, so imagine my pleasure at discovering their website! You can read a selection of their articles, which are surprisingly informative and low-brow…no “reformulated learned helplessness theory” here. The blurb reads: “Psychologies - The first women's magazine that's about what we're like, not just what we look like. Whether you want to develop your own potential, or become a better parent, partner or friend, we'll bring you the ideas, insights and inspiration to help you do it.” The website also has oodles of personality tests, with instant results, which offer fabulous insight into the real you!
Ok, this one isn’t for the faint hearted, but I bet it will have you in stitches and crying at the computer “That happened to me!!” In her words, “This blog is basically an up close and way too personal look at my life. The good, the bad, the embarrassing, the ugly and the crap that happens to everyone, but no one else wants to talk about.”
Miss Brit, despite sounding like a 50’s film star, is a fellow working mother and wife, and this blog documents her life with heartfelt sincerity, a wicked humour and the odd timely expletive. Her tag line, “Dignity is Overrated” could be that of every mother.
This is a kooky little number. Basically the idea is you register, choose some of your favourite songs and create “music bricks”. You can dedicate these to anyone you like, or just comment on why you love (or hate) the song, what it reminds you of, what you were wearing when it was released…the bricks then get built up into a wall of music that eventually becomes a testament to music of all ages and types. It’s a great way to say “remember this?!” to you class mates, and if you can´t find the right words to say I’m sorry, thank you, I love you, then why not dedicate a song? (You can send a link via the web site to whomever you wish)
Guaranteed to lift your spirits and reassure you the whole world isn’t against you. Add your stories of random acts of kindness, kid’s faux-pas and good deeds to keep the love alive!
Ok so I know it’s not quite so righteous or charitable as some of the others but it’s hard to beat that “I’ve just bagged a bargain” feeling, and when the same site offers everything from cars to Calvin Klein, lipstick to liposuction and nails (bag of 100, steel) to nails (acrylic, red, 10cm long) there is no possible way you won´t find what you are looking for, and a whole lot besides! Plus, if you are feeling virtuous, you can check out the Charity Items in your chosen search…these give a percentage of the sale price to charity.
