Being a Preschool Teacher 4 Months ago Karma: 0
As a preschool teacher I truly love my job but there are of course it's ups and downs. Preschoolers are definitely challenging. If you are not gifted with children this job will not work for you. I have definitely dealt with almost every type of child out there.

This year I am dealing with a brood of boys. Out of a class of 18 I have a grand total of 4 girls. It's definitely more of a challenge doing a structured curriculum since I teach in a private program. But it has been so much fun. Having 2 girls of my own, I definitely get to learn about boys since I am missing out. My son died almost 3 years ago since it's been a struggle but a blessing to have a classroom full of little boys. Especially boys that were born the same year as my son.

I am currently the mother of a preschooler so at least I know how to deal with her at this point. I just don't know what I am going to do when I face the lovely teen years!

I worked once as a daycare assistant and worked with k-8th grade kids for a while. I would think that having children help in so many ways. I have encountered a daycare teacher who had no children and made it clear that she'd keep it that way. She had such a disconnected view of who she was working with and seemed very callous to the children that were just being children. It seemed as though the teachers with children had some extra sparkle in their demeanor with the kids, but I'm sure there are a select few teachers without children that could be heralded for their great efforts. Anyone that can teach children of any age with patience is a superstar to me, so CONGRATS on being a teacher and best of luck with all the boys!

Teaching preschool kids is really different from elementary school students. Having the chance to teach both levels. I realised that even though their comprehension levels are different at different ages the common thing is they relate best when they can see that you are genuinely interested in their well being. It is really uplifting teaching preschool kids as they are more expressive and forthright in their opinions.
