My name is Kristie, and I have 3 kids. My older two were both premature, with the second arriving at 31 weeks and spending 7 weeks in the NICU. I'll share more about her story soon. I'd do it now, but there is total chaos going on upstairs (the kids are 5yrs, 2 yrs, and 3 mos... you do the math!).
I look forward to meeting everybody on here who's in the NICU, or has been there before.
Hello! I had three in the NICU, all born six weeks early. My first was only there for a week, but it was over Christmas and it was just a horrible experience. With the twins, we weren't NICU rookies anymore... that made it a little easier, but their stays were longer. And, of course, there was the sadness of taking one home and splitting her up from her brother who stayed.
I love your Web site and what you do to help NICU parents! I look forward to your advice here, and to meeting other NICU moms. We are in a bit of our own club, like it or not.
Camden spent Christmas in the NICU too, and it was definitely terrible. I was discharged on Christmas Eve.
As far as her story goes, I was in the hospital on bedrest for a week, because she was breech and I had almost no cervix left. They were afraid I wouldn't be able to get to the hospital on time, and she would be delivered breech, at home. . . She started having decels, and had to be delivered by c-section. She was on a vent for 7 days, had NEC, pneumonia, a rota virus infection, etc.
She's 2 now, and finally doing better with her chronic lung disease. Now we're just working on talking, and some sensory issues.
My youngest (4 months old now) ended up in NICU for a few days. It was weird because I'd always associated NICU with pre-term and very small babies. He was born at 38 weeks and was 9 pounds 2 oz. He had blood sugar problems, which doesn't seem like much in the grand scheme of what happens in NICU but it was plenty scary for us!
No, I didn't. That was about the ONLY thing that didn't happen with that pregnancy. I spent 4 months on bed rest and ended up w/ preeclampsia on the day I was induced. It wasn't the easiest pregnancy. But everyone is healthy now
