Diaper Rash Frustration 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'm going nuts. My daughter will be a month old tomorrow. Last week, she got really fussy and we thought she was sick because she had liquid poo at every changing. Of course that poo lead to some nasty diaper rash. Well it turned out it was gas from her formula and the doctor gave us a pre_script_ion for Nystasin for the rash and switched to a reduced lactose formula. We have been faithfully using the pre_script_ion and become much more diligent with changing diapers between feedings. We switched diaper brands in case that was contributing to the irritation. I stopped using wipes and started using paper towels and water, and then switched to a squeezy bottle of warm water and paper towel to blot dry. The rash hasn't gotten any better. We've also been giving her "air time" a few times a day for about half an hour at a time. Today I went online and did some reading about the pre_script_ion and found that when using the Nystasin, we were supposed to be using a regular ointment over the top of it at the same time. The doctor didn't tell us this and I'm kicking myself for not looking it up sooner. So now I'm doing that, but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm a 29 year old unwed mother, living happily in sin with my three children and the father of the second two. I have a 6 year old girl, a 18 month old boy and a newborn girl. I love writing when I have the time, bowling, taking the kids for walks. After 6 years of being a mom, I'm finally learning how to really enjoy it and I love to share my observations, theories, and sometimes off-the-wall ideas.

Have you tried Butt-Paste? It's the miracle diaper rash cream. You can get it at Wal-Mart, Target and pretty much any drug store and grocery store. It truly is amazing stuff.

I did read on quite a few sites that Butt past is good, so I think we'll pick some up today. Thanks. =)

I have an article about preventing diaper rash here -

http://infant-toddler-health.suite101.com/article.cfm/preventing_diaper_rash

I just reccently started using cloth diapers and it has done wonders for my baby's diaper rash problem. I am sooo not a cloth diaper person either but it hasen't been that bad.

I am happy to report that we switched her to a soy formula, which caused the diahreah every 20 minutes to stop, and with the help of Butt Paste, the rash is now completely gone. I've just been making sure I dry her really well at changes now and put regular A&D ointment on her bottom and she's been fine. The next step would have been cloth diapers, but I didn't need to. If it comes back, I'll reconsider.
