Whether you're a mama in the military yourself or you're a military spouse, you know how to stretch a dollar. While the commissary and PX/BX/NEX are part of our military benefits, if you've been using them exclusively, you could be missing out on some real deals.
With gas prices and food prices and ALL prices skyrocketing in recent weeks and months, American families have been scrambling to pinch their pennies and stretch their dollars any way they know how. For many military families, this has lead them to their commissaries for groceries and to the PX/BX/NEX for household goods.
Now, don't get me wrong. There are some great deals to be had at the commissary. Produce is usually significantly less expensive there than at local supermarkets, and if you must have a certain brand name product, you can usually find it cheaply. However, if you're not a stickler for a name brand product, you may find bargains elsewhere.
For dry and canned goods, check out your local grocery store. You may find that their store-brand version of what you've been getting at the commissary is actually cheaper. Additionally, Super Wal-Marts and Target Supercenters are popping up all over the place. These are great places to get your household goods and grocery items at rock-bottom prices, all in one trip!
I personally shop my local Target store for just about everything. And if I can find what I need with a Target logo on it instead of the name brand product, you better believe I get it!
It's tough caring for a family on military pay. Believe me, I know. So do yourself and your family a favor by shopping around for the best deals on the best quality products for them. You might be surprised to find out that it's not always a name brand and it's not always at the commissary.
