It’s this time of year we start to look longingly out the window, checking for signs of spring so we can turn off the TV, ditch the rainy day activities and get out into the fresh air. In my experience it is only us adults that feel the cold or notice the rain, so why not bundle up and get out there anyway? Then you can bring some of the outdoors inside, with these great craft ideas.
Leaf Mobiles Craft Project
You will need:
Laminate sheets or book-covering plastic
String
Paint (optional)
Scissors
All the leaves you can find!
One sturdy stick about 30cm long
Collect as many leaves as you can whilst out on your walk.
At this point you can either paint them or leave them natural.
Lay a piece of clear plastic flat on the table, sticky side up.
Place the leaves onto the plastic and then fold plastic over the top so the leaves are sealed in.
Cut around the leaves either following their shape or, with younger children, into squares / circles etc.
Pierce a hole in the top and thread the string through.
Tie the other end onto the stick and Hey presto; you have a mobile momento of your walk!
These could also be made into book marks, or attached to the front of a home made card.
Nature Prints Craft Project
These couldn’t be simpler and are great for little ones to do.You will need:
Paints
Sponges
Card
Flowers, leaves, seed heads and anything else that looks interesting!
Collect your treasures from your winter walk, and spread them out on a table. Dip the sponges into the paint and then paint one of the objects. The sponge will ensure that not too much paint is applied!
Turn the leaf etc over and press it onto a piece of sturdy card. Each item can be a different colour, and either displayed individually on different sheets or create a collage with multiple prints!
Allow this to dry and then you can display the whole sheet, or cut out individual shapes to make a mobile, book marks or homemade cards.
