Germs are everywhere...but where are the places that have the most germs? And how can you clean up so the germs won't be around?
People get a little freaked when you mention germs. There are so many deadly ones that have made their way tinto mainstream society. West Nile Virus, SARS, and drug-resistant bacteria. No wonder we haven't all resorted to all being germ crazy and wrapping ourselves in plastic. Here's the deal on all the most germ filled places.
The Kitchen Sink-There is more bacteria in the kitchen sink than there is in your bathroom. The worst places? The sink basin and faucet handles.
Cleaning Solution: Clean the counters and sink with antibacterial cleaner after preparing food. Also clean the sink twice a week with bleach and water. Scrub the sink and then dump the solution down the drain.
The Airplane-The cramped and highly used airplane bathrooms have traces of E-coli on the taps and door handles. And that's because of the cramped quarters.
Cleaning Solution: Make sure you use the paper toilet covers when available. After using the washroom, wash and dry your hands. Get a clean paper towel to use on the toilet lid and doorknob.
The Load of Wet Laundry-Clean clothes doesn't mean clean! Anytime you transfer your undergarments into the dryer from the washer, you get E-coli on your hands.
Cleaning Solution: Run your washer and dryer at a high temperature, like at 150 degrees. Also wash your whites with real bleach, it will kill 99.9% of the germs. Wash your underwear separately and dry them for at least 45 minutes. Make sure you wash your hands after touching the laundry.
The Public Drinking Fountain-School fountains are the worst with most amount of germs on the spigot (that's where the water comes out).
Cleaning Solution: Send your child to with plenty of their own beverages. Tell your children how important it is to wash their hands before and after lunch, going to the bathroom and after using the computer.
The Playground-A playground is full of germs. Things like blood, mucus, saliva and urine can be found there. Most kids put their hands in their mouth and it's easy to understand why they get sick.
Cleaning Solution: Carry hand-sanitizing gel with you so you can clean your child's hands a couple of times while you are at the park.
The Bathtub-The bathtub is actually quite dirty. There is usually more germs in your bathtub then there is in your kitchen garbage.
Cleaning Solution: Once a week, disinfect your tub. Pay close attention to soap scum.
The Shopping Cart Handles-There is saliva, bacteria and even fecal matter on shopping cart handles. It's a horrible thought of how many other people touched the same handle and with what.
Cleaning Solution: Use the disinfectant wipes that most grocery stores supply now. Always, put raw meat in a plastic bag, that will help everyone in the long run!
