We all want our homes to be clean right? But how safe are the products we use? I want everyone today to go to their kitchen and look under the sink. Once you’re there pull out you most commonly used spray cleaner, you know the one that you use for just about everything, now read the back. Feel free to skip over all the things you can’t pronounce but make sure to read all the warnings. If you’re like I was you have several of these bottles and some contain little or no ingredient information. So what’s in them?

Well here are just a few things. Most dishwashing detergents include naphta, which is a central nervous system depressant, diethanolamine, a possible liver poison, and chlorophenylphenol, a metabolic stimulant that is considered a toxic substance.

Now if you have a dishwasher, take any major brand of detergent and place a quarter size amount on a small piece of tin foil and let it sit over night. You can see for yourself what happens, and we eat off the plates that these detergents are supposed to clean.

About 150 of the chemicals in our homes have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological abnormalities. Even our toothpaste has a warning telling you NOT to swallow it. And we all know that bleach is a carcinogenic. Just because these things are on the shelf at your local store does not mean they are safe. Several common cleaners emit fumes even when in the package that can make your family sick.

Think about this since WWII 72,000 synthetic materials have been produced, less than 2% of these chemicals have been tested for toxicity, mutagenic, carcinogenic, or birth defects.

There are alternatives, the same companies that make these products are stepping up and making all natural versions of their cleaners, Clorox green works is made of 99% natural ingredients according to their website.

There are also several companies that offer large lines of both cleaning and hygiene products that are all natural, companies such as Method, Seventh Generation, and Melaluca. Or you can easily and effectively clean your entire home with such things as baking soda, lemon juice, and vinegar.

avatar This was all new information for me. Thank you very much! I'm going to search out some safer and healthier cleaners the next time I go to the grocery store!

I am still curious about the baking soda, lemon juice, and vinegar. Does this kill germs and bacteria like all of the antibacterial cleaners do? Thanks!
