Going Green - Everyone is talking about it, writing about it, blogging about it. It is hard to do. It is expensive to do. And it is time consuming. It can be, anyway. And what is the deal about plastic? There are ways to go green without even half thinking about it that will save you time and money, and start saving the planet for our kids.
Go Paperless on your bills and pay bills via online banking. It will save time and paper.
Stop using plastic bags at the grocery store (unless they are made from corn). Purchase re-useable grocery bags- they hold more, can be biodegradeable, and can be inexpensive.
Recycle- make it a chore for the kids.
Use chemical free, non-toxic cleaners. Note: Organic does not mean hypoallergenic. Plant materials can be organic and allergenic. Read labels carefully.
Use live plants indoors to improve air quality as opposed to air fresheners.
When you purchase in bulk with free shipping, you may also leave a green footprint because you are not running to 5 stores to purchase your organic groceries.
If you need a pest control service, use green and organic products. Find a service that is Green Shield Certified. If using products, try vinegar in ant hills and orange or mint oil in the house.
Buy organic. It is healthier and cuts down the amounts of toxic waste that pesticides cause. Costco sells many organic products (including meats). Localharvest.org will find a local farm near you to purchase produce- a fun field trip and a green footprint.
When replacing appliances, use Energy Star appliances. When re-painting, use green paints.
When purchasing gifts, buy green. Green Toys, Inc. makes toys from recycled plastics and is one example of many organic toys available.
