Being
a mom is one of the greatest pleasures in life. Being a grandmother is the ultimate pleasure in life. I am both. I am a grandparent raising a granchild.
I am a mom to one son, a step mother to three boys, have a grandson and
a granddaughter. My stepson and his wife
decided to call it quits so he moved in with their little boy who had just
turned a year old and my whole world went topsy-turvy in just a matter of
months.
I am 54 years old and my husband is 48 years old. This was the time in our lives when we should
have been able to relax and enjoy life.
I am a crafter, and we did craft shows.
I was also able to work any hours I wanted. We could come and go as we pleased, sleep as
late as we wanted, go to bed when we wanted, etc.
Then, as I stated previously, a little guy just over a year old
turned our world topsy-turvy when both mom and dad decided they did not want to
raise him and suddenly we were on a schedule of bed time, wake up time, and my
work schedule had to be set to certain hours.
No more casual time to do as we wanted.
We had a little boy depending on us.
We are raising our grandson, who is now five years old, and
loving it every minute. Granted, it hasn’t
been easy, but it has been fun. He has
enriched our lives in so many ways.
At times I wonder if I am going to make it because he is so full
of energy and I find it hard to keep up with him. My husband and I neither one wanted to “start
over” raising a child. We both thought
that was behind us. But neither of us
would change a thing. We love him and he
loves us. I am granny mommy and my
husband is pappy.
Sure, our “free” time is gone and it is now filled with bath
time, story time, taking him to the park, playing games with him, watching
movies with him, and making sure he gets to school on time but we love it.
This is why I am writing articles for this section, “Grandmothers .” I know that we are not alone. There are others out there raising their
grandchildren for one reason or another.
If anyone has any questions, or a subject they would like for me to
research and write an article on, please leave me a comment and I will do my
best to answer.
I have had a request/comment to get a Grandmother's group going. I will be most happy to do that but I would like input from other grandmothers as to what you would like in this group. I have never put a group together before so all suggestions would be welcome. I am thinking of going to Yahoo and getting a group started. Will let you know.
