We fell in love again this week. I sent a handwritten love note.

I've been happily married for almost 10 years. It hasn't always been perfect but I'm sure that we could both say that we're solid. Solid. Nothing says romantic like solid.

Okay, so maybe we could use some work.

We started dating at the tender ages of 18 and 19. We had a lot of things to accomplish before we were ready to marry so for over two and a half years we lived in different countries. We got to talk to each other on the phone once during that time and this was before email was readily available. Our main form of communication was the mighty letter. Pen and paper. Stamps. Remember those?

I'd take out my favorite pen and make sure I was using my best penmanship. I'd take time to write about my feelings for him and what I was going through. I would think about what he might be doing when he received the letter. Would he notice I put the stamp on upside down to symbolize my love for him? Would he save my letter in a box with all the rest? Would he hold it in his hands and long to hold mine?

We have a box with all of our letters. We read them sometimes and have a laugh. Were we really that silly and in love?

I sometimes wish we were still that silly and in love.

This week I decided to bring back the art of a handwritten note. A love note, if you will. I chose my pen carefully. The handmade card was thoughtful, but not too girly. I used my best penmanship. I put the stamp upside down.

He got the message.
