As the warm Spring weather spread across the US many moms are looking
for fun ways to get their preschoolers outside and burning off steam.
Taking advantage of those windy days by flying kites is a great way to
soak up some sunshine and bring a smile to your preschooler's face. But
before you head to the store to buy new kites for everyone here is a
fun little craft project for you to make your own kites from ordinary
paper bags. Making kites is as much fun as flying them!
Here is what you will need:
1 large brown paper bag per child
string or yarn
scissors
a hole punch
masking tape
paper streamers
paint, markers, and crayons to decorate
To
begin remove the handles from the top of the paper bag. try to take
them off gently as to not rip the bag. Add a small 1 inch strip of
masking tape just below the top of each of the four corners of the bag.
Using your hole punch a hole through the center of the tape and bag at
each of the corners. This will be where your string will go for the
kite.
To create your kite's string cut two pieces of string,
each 30 inches long. Tie the ends of the strings to the holes in the
bag. You will be creating two long loops with the strings. Cut another
piece of string, 40 inches long, and tie one end to the two loops of
string. This string will be the handle of the kite for your child to
hang on to.
Now your preschooler can decorate the bag any way
they want. Let them paint, draw, and color on it to their heart's
content. Tape pieces of the paper streams to the end of the bag for fun
