We all want what is best for our children. As parents it is our job to protect and teach them. I have a six month old son, therefore I am in the process of introducing solids and teaching him healthy eating habits. And because I want him to be as healthy as can be, I had decided early on to make my own baby food from the freshest fruits and vegetables I could find.

My dilemma when I started: Where do I begin? What should I introduce first? What is the best way to mix and match the foods after they have been introduced?

While searching for answers to these questions, I came across two books by Annabel Karmel, “Top 100 Baby Purees” and “First Meals.” I immediately purchased them and pretty much live by them when feeding my son. They truly have been a life saver to me! Not only are they full of great nutritional information but they also give tips and tricks on food and nutrition, and the recipes are easy and quick. Perfect for a busy mom like me!

“Top 100 Baby Purees” gives information on weaning and transitioning to solids, food allergies - how to determine whether your child is having an allergic reaction, tips on freezing and heating your homemade baby food, and much more.

“First Meals” covers everything from weaning until your child is seven years old. It is full of fun recipes such as “Sleeping Cannelloni” and “Chicken Caterpillar Kabobs.”

With the help of these books, I know I am giving my son the absolute best in nutrition and look forward to finding out what recipes he will enjoy next.
