Becoming a mom changes you. The first year of your baby's life is a big time for him or her. But what about the changes you go through in their first year? Becoming a mom is a life-changing event, and there are many milestones a new mom will hit in the first year of motherhood.

When you have a baby you always write down all their milestones in a baby book. Things like their first bath, and first smile. No one ever writes down the milestones that mom goes through! So make you sure you keep track of these milestones you will hit too.

You admit you can't do it alone

It is always said in books to ask for help if you need it after the baby is born. But it's another thing to actually ask for this help.

Ask family and friends to help babysit while you have a nap or to help while you run errands. Needing and asking for help doesn't mean you are weak or incapable, it means that you realize that you have new demands on you as a mother now.

You realize you are actually somebody's mom

It's a thrill the first time you fill out the forms for baby and put your name in the mother spot. When you have the power to be in public a mom is the greatest feeling.

The best feeling also happens when another child says when they see you, "Milo's mommy is here!" It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

You do mom things-in front of others

When you first make your way out in the real world with your new baby, you feel like everyone is looking at you, making sure you are doing your job right.

But sometimes you are forced to deal with the unexpected in public. Like when your baby is hungry and you have no choice but to nurse in public. Don't be ashamed, it's your right to do that. Enjoy that time with baby because it will end way too soon.

You make your first mom friend

There is a different bond that happens between moms. And when you make your first mom friend you'll know.

A bond can form over just having your kids around the same time. To find your new mom friend, get involved in mom and tots groups or contact a mom you got along with from your childbirth class. You can also search on the internet "mother's groups" and your location to find groups in your area.

You start feeling like a human again

Recovering from childbirth takes a couple of months. Everything else that was important in your life like your work, your interests fade away until the fog lifts, and you begin to become yourself again.

It's quite a joy to finally wear your normal clothes again. But sometimes we wear our maternity clothes to hide behind. Go out and buy some new wonderful clothes, even if they are a size bigger, you'll feel much better about yourself.

You laugh at being a mom

New parents take the responsibility of being a parent seriously. Sometimes, though, there are funny times.

When you see your husband get peed on when he changes the baby's diaper, or when you hear the little coos your baby makes, you can laugh! Kids are amazing for making you laugh on the worst of days.

You can handle the impossible

Being a mom is such an unpredictable job. At first you'll feel like its a roller coaster, everything goes good and then can change to the worst in a second. Eventually, though you learn to handle it with ease.

You believe you are a good mom

Being a mom doesn't mean you have to do everything yourself. If you think that way you will be burned out in the first week.

You are a good mom because you love your child. If you are taking care of them the best way you can with what you have, that's amazing. Babies don't ask for much, they want to be taken care of and be loved. If you do that then you are a good mom!

Don't stress over being a mom, things get better, just hang in there!
