Chooding a Baby Crib, photo by Emmanuel Garcia When it comes to getting things ready for the baby to come and making a baby room, first thing that will come to every parents mind is getting a nice crib. There are several things that come to mind when purchasing a crib that is right and safe for your baby. Here are some important guidelines to look for when purchasing a crib.

Comforting your baby is one of the most essential parts of being a parent which every parent would strongly agree. In their first few months a new born sleeps as much as 18 to 20 hours a day. Considering that your child will spend much of the first few months and/or years of his or her life in a crib.

Baby crib buying tips:

  • Our eyes would of course like and want the showiest model that is fit for our spoiled little prince or princess but “Basic is the Best”.
  • Do not buy used cribs or use old cribs since they may not meet the current safety standards. Try to buy a crib that conforms to US safety standards.
  • Check the construction and workmanship by giving it a little shake test for the sturdiness and/or stability. Let me also warn you those models in the store aren’t as tightly assembled so be careful.
  • Your crib should have railing that lowers so it is easy for you to lift the baby out of the crib without stressing your back. Considering that drop side cribs are more convenient type. If you are to buy a drop side crib, be sure that the drop side cannot be opened by a child and it is secured.
  • Make sure the crib you choose has a non-toxic finish to it.
  • When buying a mattress for your crib, be sure it is right size and have no gaps in between crib and mattress. The best time to buy mattress is right when you purchase a crib. By law, a mattress must be 27 1/4 inches by 51 5/8 inches and not more than 6 inches thick for a full size crib.
  • Remember to purchase a waterproof liner for the mattress just incase of an accidental incidents. Bumper will also help avoid any other sort of accidents.
  • Most of the cribs now a days come with an adjustable mattress height which is very important and useful as your baby grows and explores.
  • And last but not least, keep your options open for a versatile crib that transforms into toddler bed or day bed which will save your cost for the future.
One of the first concern parents have is baby’s sleeping habits or is the baby sleeping enough? As little as a life can be it needs as much more of a comfort in every way. So besides the fact that you should purchase a crib that is safe, you should also be concerned about your baby’s comfort which comes after the fact you already bought the crib so he or she will look for you to personally deliver that.
