Fall is here, and the holidays are among us! This is the time to celebrate this special season with our kids. An old fashioned Harvest party is the place to start.
Fall Craft Ideas
You can start by purchasing white t-shirts at your local discount
store. These can be used to sponge paint black cats, pumpkins, and
bats with fabric paint. After they are sponge painted you can
"spackle" by mixing a little water with orange paint and flicking the
paint onto the shirt so it looks like it is speckled over the original
shapes.
Another great idea, is to make your own pumpkin patch appear magically
in your backyard without all the hastle of planting. Just go to any
patch and purchase some small pumpkins. You can fence or rope a little
area in your background and have the kids paint a sign, plug it in the
ground add some scarecrows(that the kids have made themselves) and you
have your very own pumpkin patch! Don't forget the music! Big brother
or sister may offer hayrides for the little one's using a wagon.
I like to do a picture frame as a craft. These can be made by using a hot glue gun and the fat popsicle sticks. You can form a square by gluing them together. Have them prepared ahead of time set up with all your materials to decorate. You let the kids decorate them with small foam shapes, sequins, stickers, or any seasonal item. Put a small magnet(purchase magnetic tape on a roll), on the back of the frame and insert a photo. For the photo, set up a harvest like background. You may want to let them wear a straw hat and a bandana.
Fall Food Ideas
Keep your menu simple
Hot dogs
chips
baked beans
Caramel applesI like to make homeade caramel apples. Dip into a crock pot of melted caramel and add fun toppings. The kids will enjoy decorating them more then eating them..great fun!
Fall Games
You can play a few simple games to help make your party special
Pass the corncob( similair to hot potato).
Pin the scarf on the scarecrow
Pumpkin relay races
Potato sack races using pillow cases
Face painting
Pumpkin relays
You could do a costume parade, or just have everyone dress like a Hoe Down.
Don't forget to add music and lights outside! Your guests will love it all!
