Mamma Mia! the Film is being described as the feel good cinema event of the summer. Mamma Mia! is an adaptation of the worldwide production of the smash hit musical based on many of the popular songs of the Swedish group from the 1970's and 1980's ABBA. It's destined to be a great night out for your favorite Mamma.
Mamma Mia is the much anticipated summer film of 2008. The movie stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper and Christine Baranski.
Even if you didn't grow up with ABBA, it looks like this movie is going to be a great chick flick for moms. Coping with children coming of age, growing up and leaving, lost love, young love, new love and more than a bit of romance all set to music.
Ray Bennett of the Hollywood Reporter has written that Mamma Mia! is The most fun to be had at the movies this or any other recent summer.
The Musical
Mamma Mia! is based on the very popular West End and Broadway Musical, Mamma Mia. The musical, has already been seen by more than 30 million people in 160 cities and 8 languages around the world and has had people up dancing in their seats.
The Music
The music (soundtrack) for the movie is great. Song on the Soundtrack include: I Have A Dream, Honey, Honey, Money, Money, Money, Thank You For The Music, Mamma Mia!, Chiquita, Dancing Queen, Lay All Your Love On Me, Super Trouper, The Name of The Game, Voulez-Vous, S.O.S., Knowing Me, Knowing You, Our Last Summer, The Winner Takes It All and Take A Chance on Me
I have been able to share the upbeat infectious ABBA music with my daughters. In fact they like it so much that they took it with them to share with Grandma.
Anticipation of the Opening
I grew up with Abba's music and loved it. The music had an infectious quality that had you humming the songs.
I also grew up watching Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steel and loved him doing comedy. I also love Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Julie Walters.
I can't wait to see the film version and share the music and the movie with my girls. We're going at the end of the week.
Great Night Out for Moms
If you're in the generation that I am and grew up with ABBA, or even if you didn't, Mamma Mia looks to be a great night out for moms. You may even want to host your own Mamma Mia Party.
The Musical has people dancing in the isles. I think the film may also. It's going to be hard to resist the fun. Grab your dancing shoes and head off to see Mamma Mia opening on July 18th.
