Since it seems that all of blog land is consumed with tales of bake sales and/or frantic declarations that it is time to bake some holiday cookies, I thought I would share my favorite holiday tradition: The Cookie Exchange!

Hosting a cookie exchange is blissfully simple. Just send a bunch of pals an email and ask them to bring six dozen cookies and a large container. Once everyone is there you simply walk around a cookie-laden table filling your empty containers.

Sure, you can complicate things by requiring written recipes or mandating cookie types, but that isn't necessary. A simple cookie exchange is just as much fun (if not more) than a complicated one.

The best part is that you only had to bake one type of cookie, but now you have many other varieties to share! Last year we had 16 varieties of cookie-shaped deliciousness ranging from embarrassingly simple to marginally complex, and every one of them completely worth the calories. I think I gained 5 pounds that week due to the fact that the husband and I consumed about 8 dozen cookies, but who’s counting?

If you would like to download the pdf of recipes from last year's cookie exchange, complete with photos, click here.

avatar Aren't cookie exchange cookies calorie-less? I thought I read that somewhere.
