I love the concept of this toy: A train that chugs along playing music depending on the sequenced tracks that you put together. I could not wait to open it up and share it with both of my sons. And while we all enjoyed it and they played with it for a long time, we came across a few roadblocks here and there. But with focused and imaginative conductors, this train set can be music to your ears after all.

Gifts for Preschoolers | Type-A Mom

I'm a quick sell for anything involving fairies. Not princesses, so much; I've never felt I had much in common with them. But start talking fairy language to me and I am entranced, enthralled, enraptured. My daughter won't really have a choice in the matter, I'm afraid. I'm going to relive my fairy-centered childhood dreams through her... so she'll get the fairy books, the fairy outfits, the fairy dolls. I hope she'll let me play with them.

Due to my fairy addiction, then, I was pretty excited about this book. “Tangle Fairies” - what a clever idea. What little girl can't relate to waking up with tangles in her hair? What Mom can't relate to the painful process of brushing them out, oh-so-slowly? And a book that would put some good fairy flair and humor into the daily detangling would definitely get my vote.

Nostalgia – a longing for things from the past.  As a woman who has in the past two years dealt with entering my thirties, realizing I will never have another baby, and watching my baby girl become a pre-schooler on her way to kindergarten next year, I’ve felt the bittersweet pangs of longing for my own childhood.

According to all the holiday decorations already up at the mall, it seems to be that time of year again: time to start organizing our gift lists.  I know I always need new Christmas gift ideas for my boys (ages 2 and 5) but fear buying even more plastic, useless, eventually unused junk that just clutters up my home.

handymanny.jpgEvery Christmas my husband and I allow our children to open up one pre-Christmas present that is just from us – no Santas involved – and each year we have chosen to give holiday themed books.  Our pre-schoolers love to look at books and be read to, and there is no better treat for them in the long ride to Grandma’s house for Christmas than to have a brand new book in their hands for the journey.
