We all know that breastfeeding is best for babies. It boosts the kids’ immunity and it speeds up the mother's recovery from pregnancy. However, there are instances when breastfeeding doesn’t go as smoothly as we’d like it to be.

Truth be told, I nursed my boys for a maximum of one week. It’s not that I didn’t want to breastfeed them at all. I’d love to, but my breasts weren’t as cooperative as I’d want them to be. The reason: my babies were having problems latching on to my breast. I'm not really sure if the latching problem was due to the size of my nipples.

I tried switching from one breast to the other but that didn’t help either. Then there came the point when I could no longer stand breastfeeding because both breasts were swollen and in pain. Not to be grossly descriptive about my breastfeeding shortcomings, but I ended up having blisters on both breasts. From there on, the babies were on formula.

On a related note, men nowadays are increasingly taking an active part in parenting. I think more and more dads in this generation are interested in not only being able to witness the highlights of their wives’ pregnancy and beyond but also, to participate in the experiences which are deemed to be a mother-child interaction.

I’ve read an article about a father’s take on parenting specifically breastfeeding. "Nursing wasn’t going well", they say. So, what the couple did was to bring their baby to the pediatrician to find a solution to the breastfeeding problem.

In hindsight, I should've consulted a doctor to find ways to alleviate the discomfort of breastfeeding. I'm sure there are other women who have experienced the same problems as I did. I would appreciate if you could share your personal stories and likewise, tips on painless breastfeeding.
