When you are pregnant, there are a lot of unknowns. And one that many
pregnant women wonder and worry about is what happens when your water
breaks. While it is rare that your water will break before the onset of
labor, it does happen. So, what do you need to know if you are full

Most women I know have not read an entire book about childbirth. Some have read abbreviated versions of what happens during labor and delivery in books like What to Expect When You're Expecting, some others haven't read about it but instead have opted to get their information from a childbirth education class, and still some others might have decided to just look it up online or to just "wing it."
Now, don't get me wrong, I do believe that reading books about your pregnancy and taking a childbirth education class are both wonderful preparation tools. However, I also think it is just as important to read an entire book dedicated to the nitty gritty details of what actually happens to your body during the entire birthing process and I'll tell you why.

When I was pregnant with my son, I hadn't really considered a home birth as an option until we saw the hospital where we were planning on having him. Walking around and changing positions was discouraged, most of the babies were in the nursery instead of with their mommies, and there was an O.R. nurse blowing her nose profusely in a tissue that she would then fold in half and use again.

A birthing team is important in any childbirth setting, but a home birth affords more flexibility regarding the number of people who can be there and the role each person is allowed take on. These are the people who were essential to me when I had my son at home.

I know that as a type A kind of mom that having a bag packed and
waiting to take with me to the hospital was of utmost importance. I
had it packed several weeks before my due date and I checked it weekly
to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Then I checked it again and
threw in last minute items once I finally was in labor! So what DOES a type a mom pack to take to the hospital to have a baby?
Two bags full of stuff, one for mom and one for the new babe! Read on
to see what you should pack so you're ready for the hospital!

My first labor was a bit over 19 hours total. I very much wanted my next labor to go a bit more quickly, so while pregnant with my third son I did some research and found a couple of possible ways to speed up my labor. Want to know what I found?
