I can remember in elementary school my friends and I made friendship pins out of safety pins and tiny multi-colored beads. I am almost certain it was a regular Brownie meeting activity when our Troop Leader ran out of ideas (which was often). Then in junior high school my friends and I made friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss, some of us even using our toes to hold the bracelet tight while we carefully knotted them to completion. These days my friends I trade, well, nothing except for an occasional email if that counts for something (I think it does!). However, according a recent issue of InStyle magazine "Hollywood trendsetters are gifting...wood beads as friendship bracelets."
The bracelets InStyle features are $135 a pop. Girlfriends, I love you, but I'm not spending that much on you to prove my friendship. Here are some more affordable alternatives should you embrace this current trend. I think this is a great idea for moms since you can wear wood with, well, anything!
This beautiful wood bead bracelet can be bought for a reasonable $24.95 from www.WoodJewelry.com
This one is also a steal at $39.00 and the toggle clasp adds a very classy touch. You can get this one at www.PeggyLi.com
Or if beads aren't your thing but you like the idea of trading a
friendship bracelet made from wood, check out this bracelet from www.UrbanOutfitters.com. With each one priced at $4.99 you could get one for all your friends!
For those who want to make their own, you can order wood beads for $0.64 each from www.ArtBeads.com and string them yourself!
Love the idea...it might be too cute for me. I'd like the idea of a bracelet that says I'm in a secret society... The BeeYotch Group? I'd wear something like that with pride. We aren't nice all the time, are we? And sometimes the only people who can relate to our BeeYotchiness are other moms. Just a thought.

Love it! Thanks for the comments. I know the idea is a little cheesy for friendship bracelets so thanks for adding the "coolness" factor with the BeeYotch idea!
